Summary: Hyacinth smelling May
Spring that started early and with exceptionally warm weather in March, has turned out now very slow evolving and more late than expected. I looked back to pictures from the beginning of last May and tulips were more developed and colourful than today. Most of them are in green and what else one could expect from such weather like this. Rainy and chilly all the time!
However how slow, the garden is getting more and more in bloom. Hyacinths are opening their blooms and their sweet scent is filling entire garden. Oh how I love those light spring breezes, carrying odor of hyacinths. Just wonderful!
My Hyacinthus orientalis bulbs are doing good, even though I was bit worried. Our mild and very rainy past winter was my main concern as these bulbs don't like to sit in wet. All are in place and blooming happily. Of course the real situation with the bulbs will be revealed when I lift them in summer. So far so good.
I have a holiday this week, so I plan to sit in the garden a lot and smell all my hyacinths, only if weather permits. I also plan to do a lot of gardening work, as new hot summer bed needs to be dug, all beds little tidy up, and some new exiting summer bulbs from England to be planted.
