Summary: Flight of Parrot
In fall two years ago I bought a handful of parrot tulips bulbs. They were on wholesale and one could choose whatever the variety and amount. I picked 1-2 bulbs from every box I liked a picture on. But following spring brought little joy. Plants were rather weak and blooms small. Overall look was miserable and not very satisfying. I thought that they were not for me and I should give them away or even compost. In summer I lift them and tried properly. But when next fall arrived, I had no better idea than put them back to my garden. Bulbs looked too good too for just throwing away.
This spring however, it is completely different story with my parrot tulips. They are simply glowing! Big, bold and beautiful! Who could give up on those beauties?! So now I have no thoughts of getting rid of them anymore! I rather consider having those more, as a big bed, full of flamboyant blooms. It's not a bad idea, isn't it?!
In general, it was difficult start of the season for tulips this year. Lot of rain and moisture caused a lot of grey mould on leaves and blooms. But many struggled out nicely and put on good blooms. Some species are acting very reliably, like all
T. clusiana varieties and
T. batalinii.
Tulipa humilis on the other hand was kind of worrying this year.
Rather disappointing is also the discretion of some Dutch bulb companies, which put whatever in their named packs. This year I had a couple of these "surprises" again. My Tulipa 'Yellow Baby' supposed to be paired with 'Baby blue' but is toghether now some nameless tall beauty. At least they bloom on same time and go together rather well.
Some tulips are still about to bloom. So these weren't the last ones! Coming some more!
Telepaatia on kindlasti olemas - jalutasin oma kliendiga pargitaolises Londoni satelliitlinnas ja seletasin talle laialt Sinu jagatud teadmisi nendest kohastunud kiuksuvatest rohelistest papagoidest... Nojah ja nyyd loen kuidas Sina tapselt samal ajal postitasid oma kaunitaride pilte sama nime all... Imeline :)
VastaKustutaNa vat, na vat! Kellel millised papagoid! Rõõm, et oskad neid nüüd tähele panna!
KustutaSu papagoid on imelised aga mind tinistasid sel kevadel just häbelikud ära, minu esimesed :) See, et tulbid aiaviljaga kokku sobivad on päris huvitav mõte, ma mõlgutan seda nüüd veidi :D
VastaKustutaHäbelikud on nii nägusad kui samavõrra tublid! Kindlalt väärivad kohta laiemalt meie aedades! Tulp aiamaalillena mu meelest täitsa kärab! :P
KustutaThey are all beautiful. I find the small species tulips easier to use in the garden. They die more gracefully than the large ones. I do have some large ones though. This year I had a new one I liked a lot. It started orange and as it aged, the colour became orange with yellow stripes. It is just finishing right now.
VastaKustutaI agree with you, Alain! I love species tulips, but not all are easy and reliable. Many culivers are fun too. Regards changing colours, I like the 'Daydream' tulip for most. It starts out acid yellow and neat but eventually develops into a bright orange giant! A big transformation!
KustutaHoolimata suurest ruumipuudusest, "libastusin" minagi eelmisel sügisel kamalutäie tulbisibulate peale, mis Sadulatalu Sekeldajal üle jäid ja praegu seda mixpeenart vaadates oleks patt mõeldagi, et tulpi võiks tõrjuda vms. Millised värvid ja vormid! Aga muidu ikka algliikide poole tugevalt kaldu.
VastaKustutaMa usun, et väike flirt suurte värviliste hübriididega on täiesti aksepteeritav! ;-)
KustutaI have tulips you called 'nameless' as well, they are very pretty.
VastaKustutaThe 'parrot' tulips you showed look very unusual and beautiful, Tistou! I see you have a good tulip collection.
Oh yes! My nameless variety supposed to be 'Baby Blue' but turned out something completely different. A very tall one instead of midget. Do you have a name for one you have?

KustutaVärvirõõmus kevad. Ilusad sordid.
VastaKustutaSelline pillerkaar püüab tõesti pilku. Isegi suures võililleväljas. :) Käisin terve nädalavahetuse mööda neist ja imetlesin kui rikkalikud värvid ja vormid. Väga pillavad!
